The White Line Color Woodcut
is a type of colorful print created with water color paint. The name whiteline comes from the carved lines that separate painted areas and appear as white lines on the print where the paper peaks through.
It was invented in 1915 provincetown Massachusetts by a mostly female group of artists later known as the provincetown printers… though until recently the official credit is given to the only man in the group.

The women working in this technique were not given the respect they deserved and struggled to be seen as fine artists in a male dominated profession. Many of these women were also queer and were forced to hid a majority of their personal lives. Because of this it is hard to find records of them or this technique outside of provincetown.
